POOL OF BETHESDA
Near the Lion Gate and the Santa Anna Church, we can find the pool of Bethesda.
As you know by now from previous posts of mine, Jerusalem is located on the border of the desert, and one of the most acute problems in Jerusalem, for centuries, was water. The pool of Bethesda was a reservoir and used as drinking water for the people as well as their livestock.
However, this special pool had unique healing capabilities. When Jesus came to the pool he found a sick person lying on his bed that was unable to enter the water as he was incapable of reaching it and nobody helped him. Jesus asked the person a very important question: "Do you want to be healed?" And when the person responded positively, Jesus healed him. The most important lesson learned from this miracle is that God helps those who want to help themselves. You need to believe, you need to want, you need to do something for your own self, and the rest is in the hands of God. The Bethesda pool and Santa Anna Church are usually sites that we visit during our tours in Israel.
