Tel Megiddo - Armageddon

Tel Megiddo is an archaeological site boasting a history of 8,000 years. But the most important period of this place is from the time of King Solomon, 3,000 years ago. The Bible mentions that King Solomon built the 1st Holy Temple and the City of Hazor and the City of Megiddo and the City of Gezer. In all these cities we can find the same unique gates & walls that were built by King Solomon. In the new testament, Megiddo is mentioned in the Book of John as Armageddon.

A Tel, unlike a natural hill, is man made. Settlements that were built one top of the remnants of the previous one, create a hill-like (Tel) shape. In Megiddo, archaeologists from the University of Chicago dug this Tel and found 30 different layers/periods.

The archaeological remnants of this Tel are fascinating. Especially the water project bringing the water from the cistern inside the walls of the fortified city.

Megiddo is another one of those amazing sites that brings the Bible back to Life - a must visit when you are in Israel next time.
