Caesarea Philippi

Caesarea Maritima was built by Herod the Great. In this post we’ll talk about Caesarea Philippi that was built by Philippe, the son of Herod the Great. The location of Caesarea Philippi is on one of the 3 main sources of the Jordan River. The name is “Banias” and in Hebrew Hermon River. The sources of the Hermon River are exactly where Philippe built the shrine of the old pagan city. This place is important to us because of the visiting of Jesus and his disciples as is mentioned in Mathew 16:18 - “And I tell you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it”. This is a beautiful place to visit when you come to Israel.
