The Ancient Boat Discovered in Genosar – Sea of Galilee

Genosar is mentioned in Mark ch 6:53 and Mathew ch 6: 34. Today, Genosar is located on the North-Western coast of the Sea of Galilee. Nearby, a few years ago, during a drought year (low water levels) an ancient boat was found covered with mud and water. After very careful excavation so as to preserve the boat and not harm it in any way, it was brought to the Bet Yigal Alon Museum in Kibbutz Genosar.

Initially, upon finding the boat, the enormity of the discovery was not entirely understood. Only after special “carbon-14” tests were performed, was the ‘treasure’ at hand realized: the boat is 2,000 years old!!! Exactly from the time of Jesus.

There is no proof that it was used by Jesus, however, it is from his time, and it is called ‘Jesus Boat’. In all likelihood, it was used by Jesus disciples or fishermen that knew Jesus and that were maybe even witness to his miracles and/or even healed by him.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the most ancient boat found that was preserved for so many years under water.
