The Church of St. Peter’s Primacy

This church is located in Tabgha, near the Church of the Multiplication (Loaves & Fish) on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Two significant events occurred here.

The first one is mentioned in John 21 15-17 – after Jesus was resurrected, he came back to the shores of the Sea of Galilee and met Simon, the son of Jonah (Peter).

“ The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17)

Inside the church you can see the Mensa Cristi (the Table of the Lord) – the rock where Jesus fed Peter as mentioned in John 21.

The 2nd event is mentioned in John 21 4-14. In the morning Jesus was standing on the shore of the Sea of Galilee and asked the fisherman: did you have something to eat, and they answered: no. And he said to them throw the net to the other side of the boat. Later, they could not haul up the net it was so full of fish. After that, they all ate the fish together around the Mensa Cristi.
