BREAKING NEWS FROM JERUSALEM – the past is creeping up on us.

Recent archeological diggings in the Western Wall Tunnels uncovered a Roman theater. It is very important to mention that these diggings are 10 meters below street level and that there is no light nor sun as the entire area above is built.

Just to remind you, in 70 AD Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans and abandoned and in 130 AD the Roman Caesar Hadrianus (Hadrian) rebuilt the city on top of the remnants, and it was named Aelia Capitolina. The theater, very typical to Roman cities, that has just been uncovered is assumed to have been built during the time of Aelia Capitolina.

It looks like this theater was never completed nor used. As yet, we do not know why it was not completed. One assumption is that the Bar-Kochva Revolt (132-136 AD) against the Romans was the reason.
