The Wildflowers of Israel

“The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land” (Song of Songs 12:2) After a long dry summer, the Colchicum are some of the first flowers to bloom telling us autumn is here.

"The wilderness and the parched land will exult; the Arabah will rejoice and bloom; like the crocus it shall bloom abundantly, and rejoice with joyful song" (Isaiah 35:1-2)

This is the miracle Bible land. More than 2,800 species of plants grow in Israel. And just for comparison, in all Europe, which is bigger nearly 500 times more than Israel, there are only 3,000 species of plants. And don’t forget that Israel is 70% desert land and despite, this land is very rich withflora & fauna!!! What is the reason for this abundance of so many species that can be found in such a small piece of land?

  1. Location: Israel is located between three continents and is the bridge between them.

  2. The Syrian-African rift that begins in the south of Turkey and crosses along the eastern side of Israel, through the Dead Sea, all the way down to the Red Sea and southwards to the Horn of Africa (Zanzibar) – 6,000 km long.

The unique location and the existence of this rift provide the region a unique climate: from the north the cold of Europe; from the south the heat from Africa; and from the west the Mediterranean. The result is an environment where many different species of plants flourish. The northern Sea of Galilee is the only place in the world where within 20 minutes’ drive you can treat yourself to a Mango fruit (sub-tropical) as well as treat yourself to cherries (that require very cold weather). Given all the above, it is no wonder that the Dawn of Humanity started here in this rich land – as we learn from the Bible. Both Judaism and Christianity grew and developed here. Enjoy watching only some of the 2,800 species.
