Treasures found at the Southern Wall Excavations!
Intense and very important archaeological excavations are taking place around the southern wall of Temple Mt., through the Ophel and up to the City of David. The focus of these excavations is to uncover as much information as possible from the time of King David & the 1st Holy Temple to date.
To name some of the major findings: warehouses and a wall from the period of the 1st Holy Temple built by King Solomon; parts of the walls from the time of Ezra and Nehemiah upon their return from Babylon to rebuild the 2nd Temple; many ritual baths (‘Mikves’). Some other findings, mainly in the City of David, are related to King David and King Solomon (10 BCE) & up until the Byzantine era (6 AD).
In this video, you’re going to be exposed to treasures of coins and jewelry that were found in a house dated back to the Byzantine era. On one of the medallions you can see the ‘Menorah” – a Jewish symbol which has become to be the National Emblem of the State of Israel.
As you watch this video, you’ll get to understand how archaeologists arrive at different conclusions, based on the actual physical findings.
