“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, tell her that her sad days are over” (Isaiah 40:2)
I believe that I have already mentioned it thousands of times: we have a million more years of excavations in Jerusalem to uncover its entire history.
The video’s 1st stop is an area called “The Givati Parking Lot”. This area is part of the City of David that was built more than 3,000 years ago. Excavations there are still ongoing, but already there are a bunch of significant and interesting finds.
Wherever we dig in the City of David, especially in the 1st and 2nd Holy Temple destruction layers, we find everything covered with soot. A testimonial to the fact that the city was burned down as it was destructed. Additionally, there are many other layers, built on top of each other (not destruction layers) that give us a lot of information about the life in Jerusalem during each period.
To name the main findings in above mentioned area:
“Chakra” – a fortress that was built by the Greeks during the Hellenistic period (3rd century BCE)
A villa built by a rich woman who came from Persia
A very large Roman Villa with treasures of golden coins
Ritual baths
Pottery & stone vessels that tell us a story (watch the video)
The video’s 2nd & 3rd stops are the Pilgrims Road the Pilgrims Tunnel located right beneath the road. The pilgrims walked along this road from the Siloam Pool (this is also the place that Jesus healed the blind man) right up to the Holy Temple area. There is further evidence of the Roman destruction and it was found in the tunnel and it matches Josephus Flavius documentation.
Jerusalem has a fascinating story! The City of David is the cherry on top.
Enjoy this video and I’d like to thank The Jerusalem Watch and AnaRina Heymann for a video well done.
