Inside the Tower of David
It is an already established fact that Jerusalem is built one stratum on top of the other and it is also known that everyday new findings are uncovered.
This post will discuss the area of the Tower of David, David’s Citadel and Herod’s Palace.
It is located close by to Jaffa Gate.
The Tower of David, as can be seen in the video is a minaret of a mosque. So, one would question, why is it called the Tower of David?! The answer is in the video. The fortress of David is a very old one dating back more than 2,000 years ago and located near the archaeological site of Herod’s Palace. Another tower, part of King David’s fortress (David’s Citadel), is built on the remains of one of the towers that was built by Herod.
In the archaeological excavation, inside David’s Citadel, 28 different strata were uncovered. Just imagine that at this same place stood 28 different buildings over 28 different periods. Wow!
Nearby, we have the Ottomans’ building, called ‘Kishle’. Beneath the ‘Kishle’, remnants of Herod’s Palace were discovered. More on Herod's Palace.
Today, the Jerusalem Museum is housed at David’s Citadel and the Tower of David. There is a spectacular audio-visual night show screened on the walls of the fortress. Here is a glimpse of this magnificent night show.
