Mt. Carmel - Elijah & the Priests of Baal

One of the famous stories from the Bible (Kings 1 ch: 18) takes place on Mt. Carmel and is about the conflict between Elijah the prophet and the 450 priests of Baal and Asherah.

Pastor Andy Cook recites us the story as he climbs up the steep Mt. Carmel by foot. You need not worry, as during the tours I guide, we will climb up by bus to a place nowadays called: “El-Muhraqa”.

Many a times the name of a place provides us with a lot of information about the site itself. This applies to “El-Muhraqa” as Machruq in Arabic means a burnt area. Only to remind us of the event that took place at the time of Elijah in front of the people of Israel and King Ahab.

One can enjoy a magnificent view from this place on Mt. Carmel – in the East we can see the entire Jezreel Valley up until the Gilad Ridge in the Kindom of Jordan and to the West, the Mediterranean Sea and the City of Caesarea.

I want to thank Pastor Andy Cook for this great video.
