Jerusalem in the Eyes of Jesus – part 3 of 3

This is part 3 of a 3 post series. If you missed the 1st and 2nd parts, go to part 1 and/or part 2.

I would like to caution that there may be inconsistency between archaeological findings and tradition and it is not for me to approve or disapprove. It is for each of us to make our own judgment.

Part 3 gives us the opportunity to understand what Jesus had to go through during his last days before his crucifixion, death and resurrection.

The video shows very well-known and famous sites where Jesus spent his last days.

The Upper Room is located on Mt. Zion and it is very important because this is the place where the ‘Service’ began (was born). When Jesus sat there and cut the bread and served wine to his disciples he said: this bread that you eat is my body and this wine that you drink is my blood. We follow this ‘Service’ up to now.

The Upper Room was built by the Crusaders approximately 900 years ago and according to the Crusaders it is standing on the location where Jesus took his Last Supper. Some people believe that there is another room on Mt. Zion in the Armenian Quarter in the Church of St. Mark, and according to them that is the house of Mark’s mother and that’s where the Last Supper took place.

Lithostrotos - here archaeologists found part of the moat of the Antonia Fortress that later became to be a cistern. This is the place where they placed the crown of thorns on Jesus’ head.

The Via Dolorosa – the Way of the Cross. According to tradition this is the way where Jesus walked carrying the cross up until the Rock of Golgotha. This tradition began in the 15th century when Christian Pilgrims came to identify the places, known today as the 14 stations, mentioned in the Bible. They did so only to make life easier for the Pilgrims coming to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. It goes without saying, that these 14 stations are not mentioned in the Bible.

The 1st station is Antonia’s Fortress and some people believe that the meeting between Jesus and Pontius Pilate took place in Herod’s Palace, located near what is called today Jaffa Gate.

Out of the 14 stations, the last 5 are in the Holy Sepulcher, located above the Rock of Golgotha.

The Old City of Jerusalem is a biblical museum, and to walk through it is to walk in the time of Jesus and in his footsteps.

I invite you to visit and touch the Bible. Come and find the Israel in you.

Thank you Samyaza Shemyazaz for sharing this video of “Lost Worlds” Series.
