Breaking news from the past - lavish halls
I’m glad to share with you a new archaeological finding in the Western Wall Tunnels. The groups I’ve taken to these tunnels, will tell you what a truly amazing experience this is – touching the very stones that tell us the story of 2,000 years ago.
This recent findings are extravagant and lavish halls that in most likelihood served the dignitaries of that period. The halls are from the Herodian & Roman eras.
You may be wandering how come all the findings are underground – shouldn’t they be above ground? At the time of Jesus/Herod, the street level was 15 meters below today’s street level - below what is today the plaza in front of the Western Wall, therefore, the findings described in this video are below the street level of the Old City.
These halls will now be a part of the Western Wall Tunnel Tours.
Remember that we have a 3,000-year-old (or more) history and all of it is below ground. We continuously dig our roots so as to better understand our past.
One of our Ministers, the late Yigal Alon, said: “When a people does not honor its past, it lives in a present of little substance and faces a future clouded in doubt.”
I'd like to thank The Watchman for this video.
